Intimacy![]() 6.2009 – Intimacy The Tabernacle of Art, Beit Meirov, Holon Curator: Udi Rosnoyne I consider intimacy to be one of the most complex and stimulating domains of all, and one raising many questions: Which needs does intimacy provide for us? What does the victim in each couple sacrifice to maintain the intimacy? Does someone who has a full inner world and is complete within him/herself need intimacy? Should intimacy be accompanied by dependency, mutuality, the sharing of authority, of love and emotion? In this exhibition, I have tried to evaluate the meaning of intimacy and its various concepts. In the center of the exhibition stands the composition "The Tabernacle of Intimacy", comprised of two totally identical figures, with an altar next to them, to serve as a metaphorical image of acts of sacrifice for the sake of intimacy. Each member of the couple must relinquish his/her values or personal needs and sacrifice them on the altar of intimacy, for example: ego, self expression, self realization, etc. If they decide not to sacrifice something of themselves, then their love is what is sacrificed on the altar. Such that the altar, the victim, will always be in the background of intimacy. Various couples are exhibited around the composition "the Tabernacle of Intimacy", where each couple expresses another aspect of intimacy: Balanced intimacy, intimate relationships, disguised intimacy, massive intimacy, infiltrating intimacy, and equal intimacy. The interpretations are varied but the source is the same – the same wooden templates left unused for decades, where I use the authenticity of the materials to illustrate how history obtains another meaning and becomes a living project. |
